Albania Voter Study Shows Ideological Roots and Party Preferences

A statistical observation conducted in April surveyed 1,119 adults across 12 districts of Albania, representing the adult population of about 1.9 million. The study, financed by the German Konrad‑Adenauer‑Stiftung, examined respondents' self‑identified political biographies and voting intentions for the May 2025 parliamentary elections.

The results indicate that roughly 520 000 adults (≈27% of the adult population) come from families persecuted for political reasons during the communist era; among them 18% would vote for the Socialist Party (PS), 47% for the Democratic Party‑Alliance (PD‑ASHM), 9% for other parties and 26% would abstain. About 387 000 adults (≈20%) stem from families that were communist; 72% of this group would support PS, 10% PD‑ASHM, 7% other parties and 10% would not vote. The remaining 982 000 adults (≈52%) belong to families without a clear communist or persecuted background; 39% favour PS, 22% PD‑ASHM, 12% other parties and 26% would abstain.
