Albanian activist Edlira Çepani condemns police violence against protesters
Activist Edlira Çepani has criticized the response of law enforcement to recent protests in Albania, highlighting the severe injuries sustained by young protesters and adolescents. During an interaction with Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sport Blendi Gonxhja, Çepani presented photographs of injured individuals to emphasize the human cost of the unrest.
Çepani specifically noted the case of a young man hospitalized with serious injuries, including a damaged spine and a fractured skull. She argued that these physical injuries are far more significant than the material damage caused to boulevard tiles. The activist accused law enforcement of using disproportionate and unprofessional force, alleging that the violence was carried out under political orders.
Furthermore, Çepani criticized the perceived double standards regarding the condemnation of violence. She highlighted that one of the injured individuals was a participant in protests seeking educational reforms, only to be caught in the fences of the Ministry of Education during the crackdown.
