Albanian Democratic Party backs sole candidate Sali Berisha amid internal criticism

Deputy leader Jozefina Topalli of Albania's Democratic Party (PD) defended the party's internal election, noting that Sali Berisha is the only candidate and describing his situation as “unique.” She said Berisha has endured unprecedented political and international pressure, including being declared “non‑grata” and facing legal obstacles, yet he continues to campaign and has secured the support of over half a million voters.

Opposition MP Rudina Hajdari, speaking on a TV program, argued that the real problem in Albanian politics is the lack of opportunities for new leaders within parties. She downplayed the significance of lifting Berisha’s non‑grata status, stating it does not affect the country's key challenges, which she says should focus on combating organized crime and its socioeconomic impact.
