Albanian Democratic Party protests face criticism over organization and police clashes

Analyst Arben Meçe told ABC News that the Democratic Party (PD) protests no longer represent a genuine opposition but have become a personal platform for former prime minister Sali Berisha. He said the rallies showed abandonment by militants, low public support, and that the protests have turned into a “Berisha issue” rather than a broader democratic movement.

PD branch leader Aulon Kalaja, speaking to News24, called for a change in protest strategy, demanding security‑expert advice and better organization to avoid police violence. Kalaja accused the police of repeatedly breaking the law and using excessive force against demonstrators, and urged the party to ensure participants’ safety before continuing public actions.
