Kosovo's LDK internal crisis stalls institution formation

Lawyer Tome Gashi warned that the recent turmoil within the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) is harming the process of establishing new state institutions. He noted that the party was close to reaching an agreement with the Vetëvendosje movement, which could have enabled the formation of institutions, but internal opposition has derailed the effort.

Deputy Arberie Nagavci accused factions inside the LDK of cooperating with the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), describing the situation as a “conspiracy” that further delays institution building. She emphasized that any additional postponement is detrimental to Kosovo.

The internal dispute intensified after LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku announced he would halt all negotiations with Vetëvendosje and step down as party chairman, citing the ongoing initiative to remove him from his post. This move has put the prospective LVV‑LDK coalition and the constitutional formation of institutions in jeopardy.
