Albanian health experts advise against cold showers in extreme heat
Medical professionals in Albania warn that taking very cold showers during periods of extreme heat can stress the cardiovascular system. Rapid exposure to icy water causes blood vessels to constrict quickly, which may lead to dizziness, short‑term circulation problems, and increased blood pressure. For people with existing heart or vascular conditions, this sudden temperature shock can be particularly hazardous.
Experts recommend showering with lukewarm or moderately cool water instead. A gradual temperature drop helps the body dissipate heat more effectively without triggering the shock response, allowing the cooling sensation to last longer and reducing the risk of adverse cardiac events.
