Albanian health experts advise diet changes for summer heat
Health specialists in Albania warn that high temperatures increase the body’s need for fluids and lighter foods. They recommend avoiding heavy, fried or fatty meals, excessive spiciness, high‑salt snacks such as chips, large portions of red meat, sugary desserts and alcohol, all of which can worsen dehydration or raise internal heat.
Instead, they advise frequent water intake and unsweetened drinks, and a diet rich in water‑laden fruits like watermelon and pear, fresh salads, yogurt, vegetables and light meals. Certain vegetables provide extra protection against sun‑induced skin stress: carrots supply beta‑carotene, while tomatoes are high in lycopene, a strong natural antioxidant that supports skin elasticity and reduces oxidative damage. Although these foods can aid skin health, experts stress they do not replace sunscreen protection.
Overall, a balanced, hydrating diet combined with proper sun protection helps the body cope with summer heat and maintains energy and well‑being.
