Albanian judicial institutions reject Rama's salary dialogue
Major judicial institutions in Albania have declined Prime Minister Edi Rama's invitation to a dialogue table regarding a new salary scheme for magistrates. The Supreme Court, the General Prosecution, the High Prosecutorial Council, and various judicial associations have all refused to participate in the scheduled meeting.
Sokol Sadushi, President of the Supreme Court, stated that because the new law regarding magistrate salaries is currently under review by the Constitutional Court, discussing the matter now would be inappropriate. He noted that the legal challenge submitted to the Constitutional Court is a recent institutional development that changes the timing and substance of any potential dialogue.
While refusing to attend the specific meeting, the judicial bodies emphasized that they are not closing the door on institutional communication. The Union of Judges of Albania expressed readiness for a broader dialogue focused on the functioning and consolidation of the justice system and the quality of justice, provided it occurs after the Constitutional Court has issued its ruling.
