Albanian lek reaches historic low as euro trades near 95 per unit

The official exchange rate of the euro fell to a historic low of 95.29 lek, the lowest level ever recorded. Since the start of 2024 the euro has depreciated about 1.5% year‑to‑date and roughly 3% over the past year. The Bank of Albania has been intervening in the foreign‑exchange market, buying roughly €1.03 billion last year and about €2 billion in total during 2024‑2025 to curb the lek’s decline.

Analysts expect the downward pressure on the euro‑lek pair to continue, driven by strong tourism‑related foreign‑currency inflows. Current rates for other major currencies are: the US dollar at 81.5‑82.5 lek, the Swiss franc at 103.2‑104.2 lek, and the British pound at 109.5‑110.5 lek.
