Albanian MP Agron Šehaj accused of stealing $302 million US loan draft, staffer falls down stairs
Albanian parliamentarian Agron Šehaj, leader of the "Mogućnost" party, was filmed taking a confidential draft of a $302 million loan agreement with the United States from a parliamentary office during a plenary session. After the theft he attempted to leave the building while an administrative staffer pursued him; the staffer slipped and fell down a staircase.
Socialist Party parliamentary group leader Taulant Bala publicly demanded that Šehaj be arrested for illegal document theft and assault on a civil servant. Prime Minister Edi Rama shared video of the incident on social media and urged the prosecutor's office to take action. Šehaj later said he removed the document only to read it after being instructed by parliament speaker Niko Peleš. The episode was captured by surveillance cameras inside the Albanian parliament.
