Albanian MP Erion Braçe pushes for paid menstrual leave

Socialist Party MP Erion Braçe announced that he will bring back to the Albanian Parliament in September a proposal to grant women with diagnosed gynecological conditions – such as endometriosis and adenomyosis – one paid day off during their menstrual cycle, contingent on a medical assessment. Braçe criticised the two‑year stall of the initiative within the ruling majority and highlighted that Spain in 2023 and Montenegro (Mali i Zi) have already introduced paid menstrual leave.

He warned that the debate had shifted from women’s health to the cost for businesses, stating, “Spain did it! Montenegro did it! What about us?” Braçe urged the parliament to vote on the measure in September to end the two‑year delay.
