Sali Berisha criticizes Albania’s economy and territorial reforms

During the Democratic Party’s ‘Renewal Forum’ in Elbasan, Sali Berisha criticized the current socio-economic situation in Albania, comparing the nation to a patient in an emergency room. Berisha highlighted extreme poverty, noting that many pensioners cannot afford essential medicines and that rising living costs are contributing to a decline in birth rates.

Berisha also addressed proposed territorial reforms, accusing the government of attempting to dissolve 15 functional municipalities to consolidate power. He stated that the Democratic Party proposes a counter-project that would add at least 40 municipalities to bring government closer to citizens. He pledged that a future mandate would prioritize doubling pensions and salaries while removing taxes on food.

Party official Tomor Alizoti supported the renewal process, emphasizing the importance of long-standing party members as the foundation for the party’s future. He called for political mobilization to combat what he described as the corruption and ‘mud’ currently affecting Albanian society.
