Albanian opposition leader Sechi seizes confidential US‑Albania military loan document

Agon Sechi, leader of the opposition Mundësia (Opportunity) party in Albania, took a classified document detailing a $302 million U.S. loan for military equipment from the parliamentary chamber and exited the building quickly. A parliamentary employee who tried to stop him fell down the stairs and sustained injuries, though the staff member escaped serious harm.

Prime Minister Edi Rama posted video of the incident, condemning Sechi as a “thief of confidential documents” and urging prosecutors to pursue the case. The ruling Socialist Party filed a request to suspend Sechi from the parliament for 60 days and to refer him to a special prosecutor on five criminal counts. Sechi maintains that he returned the document and denies the accusations.
