Albanian opposition leaders criticize justice system and SPAK
Opposition figures in Albania are raising concerns regarding the integrity and efficiency of the country's justice system. Edmond Spaho, a former Democratic Party deputy, criticized the High Judicial Council (KLGJ) and the High Prosecutorial Council (KLP), alleging they have overstepped their roles and assumed legislative powers. Spaho also noted that corruption remains a significant issue within public administration and various directorates.
Simultaneously, Gazment Bardhi, leader of the Democratic Party's parliamentary group, has accused the Special Anti-Corruption Structure (SPAK) of inaction regarding Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku. Bardhi claims that Balluku's legal position has worsened following the discovery and seizure of two hidden villas, alongside new charges involving corruption, money laundering, and concealment of assets. Bardhi argued that SPAK is failing to follow its own standards for increasing security measures in response to new evidence, suggesting the delay serves political interests.
