Albanian opposition uses Soros label to explain electoral results

The Democratic Party (PD) of Albania has increasingly utilized the term “Sorosian” as a way to explain its recent electoral challenges. This rhetoric follows allegations regarding the lobbying role Alex Soros may have played concerning the “non grata” designation of Lul Berisha.

Critics argue that the PD uses the figure of Soros as a scapegoat to justify its inability to inspire and convince voters. While the opposition operates within a political system described as autocratic under Prime Minister Edi Rama, analysts suggest that the party's difficulties may stem from its own inability to connect with the electorate rather than external influence. Furthermore, it is noted that many individuals accused of being “Sorosians” are actually open opponents of the Rama administration.
