Albanian PM Edi Rama rules out veto on North Macedonia and passport issuance

Prime Minister Edi Rama said Albania will not use a veto against North Macedonia in its EU accession process, even if Albania becomes a member of the European Union. He also rejected claims that Albania would issue Albanian passports to ethnic Albanians living in North Macedonia after EU accession, describing such speculation as unfounded. Speaking at the youth “RinCamp 2026” event in Jalë, Rama emphasized that vetoes are obstructive and contrary to the spirit of European integration, and that Albania seeks “harmonious and brotherly” relations between the Albanian and Macedonian communities. He reiterated Albania’s support for North Macedonia’s EU path and warned that unilateral actions would only create new tensions in the Balkans.
