Albanian PM Edi Rama urges faster EU integration as Romania appoints technocratic prime minister

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama addressed the EU‑Western Balkans summit in Montenegro, saying “There are three things you cannot predict: God, sex and the European Union.” He called for a quicker, merit‑based accession process for Balkan candidate countries and reiterated Albania’s commitment to EU integration.

In Romania, President Klaus Iohannis named his adviser and Euro‑MP Eugen Tomac as prime minister, tasking him with forming a government within ten days and securing a confidence vote. Tomac said the only viable solution is “a prime minister independent of parties… a technocratic government, not political,” aiming to preserve financial stability and restore Romania’s credibility after a parliamentary vote of no‑confidence toppled the previous administration.
