Albanian PM Rama decries US political war amid Socialist Party protests

Prime Minister Edi Rama addressed the 35‑year anniversary of Albania’s Socialist Party, condemning what he described as a political conflict driven by U.S. President Donald Trump. He warned that Albanians were being used as “meat for the bullet” in a broader American political struggle and defended a major investment project at Zvërnec as the largest in the country’s history. At the same event, former minister Arta Dade refused a medal and declined to attend the rally, labeling the anti‑meeting called by Rama as a betrayal of socialist values. Dade accused the party leadership of compromising with corruption and said the youth protests reflected genuine left‑wing demands for dignity and social justice. Both figures highlighted internal party tension and the ongoing street protests that have lasted for weeks.
