Albanian police bust foreign SMS phishing scheme impersonating postal service

The Albanian State Police concluded a coded operation called “Posta e Rreme 2”, in which cybercrime investigators and the Sarandë Police Commission dismantled a fraudulent scheme that used counterfeit websites mimicking the official Albanian Post and distributed SMS messages with malicious links. The aim was to obtain personal and banking information from Albanian citizens for illegal monetary gain.

During the operation a 22‑year‑old French national was detained and a 53‑year‑old German suspect was placed under search as a possible accomplice. Authorities seized mobile phones, SIM cards, bank cards, documents and other items believed to be linked to the crime. Police urged the public to avoid clicking suspicious links, always verify official institutional addresses before providing personal or financial data, and to report any suspected online fraud immediately.
