Balkan police conduct major operations against war crimes and drug trafficking

Major law enforcement operations across the Balkans have resulted in numerous arrests involving war crimes, drug trafficking, and organized crime.

In Kosovo, the police and Special Prosecution launched Operation ‘Dosja 23’ in Zubin Potok, arresting nine individuals suspected of war crimes against civilian populations. The operation, linked to the ‘Intellectuals Group’ case, involved the seizure of weapons, ammunition, and significant amounts of cash. The arrests have drawn strong reactions from Belgrade, which characterized the action as ‘retaliation against Serbs’ and an attempt to intimidate the local community.

In Albania, a large-scale anti-drug operation code-named ‘Shkolla të Pastra’ (Clean Schools) targeted networks selling narcotics near schools in Tirana. Authorities identified 52 suspects, with 31 facing prison arrest. The investigation revealed that dealers used scooters, taxis, and delivery services to distribute heroin, cocaine, and cannabis to students.

Additionally, police in Tirana and Rinas arrested two individuals wanted internationally for drug trafficking and counterfeiting. In Skopje, a night raid on local venues led to eight arrests, including three minors, for violations including serving alcohol to minors and possession of narcotics.
