Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama Faces Anti‑Corruption Probe After Protesters Submit “Albanian Files” to SPAK

Activists and citizens gathered outside Albania’s Special Anti‑Corruption Structure (SPAK) in Tirana to hand over the 800‑page publication “The Albanian Files” along with a petition demanding an investigation of Prime Minister Edi Rama. The book compiles more than 500 architectural and development projects mapped out over a supposed 100‑year horizon, allegedly created without public consultation or parliamentary scrutiny.

Sidorela Vatnikaj, a protest leader, told reporters at SPAK, “The book shows that Prime Minister Edi Rama has avoided consultation.” Demonstrators argue the volume demonstrates a secret, centralized planning process that reshapes land ownership, coastal development and urban expansion, and they call for criminal prosecution of the premier. The submission comes amid the 32nd consecutive day of protests that began over specific construction projects and have broadened into wider accusations of corruption, opaque decision‑making and abuse of public trust.
