Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama pledges aid as fires ravage France and Spain

Prime Minister Edi Rama met with firefighters and civil‑emergency troops at the Farka air base to discuss preparations for heightened wildfire risk during a hot summer. He cited the severe fires in France and Spain that have forced hundreds of thousands of people to evacuate, describing the situation as a shared battle against climate‑driven blaze.

Rama expressed solidarity with French and Spanish firefighters and said Albania stands ready to assist under the European Civil Protection Mechanism, as it has done in the past. He noted the presence of Canadian "Borderless" firefighters helping train Albanian forces. The prime minister highlighted Albania’s upgraded firefighting capacity, now operating four helicopters on standby, scalable to six, with a total fleet of nine.

He urged coordinated action among local authorities, the armed forces, civil‑emergency services and firefighters, emphasizing that wildfires respect no borders and require joint effort.
