Albanian protester “Nëna Liza” threatens Prime Minister Edi Rama over disputed land

The figure known as “Nëna Liza” appeared at a protest in Tirana, claiming she will “eat Edi Rama’s dinner,” a veiled threat toward the Albanian prime minister. She is linked to a long‑standing land dispute near the 5 May complex, where her clan seized property that had previously been legally owned, later receiving state compensation for new construction. The protest portrays her as a symbol of resistance against alleged corruption and land grabs spanning decades, targeting the ruling Socialist Party and its leadership.

Liza describes herself as an academic and former communist brigade member, positioning the demonstration as a fight for the rights of those she says have been dispossessed for 35 years. The event reflects broader public frustration with perceived political corruption and property appropriation.
