Albanian Supreme Court Announces Candidates for High Judicial Council, Sets Election Date

Albania’s Supreme Court (Gjykata e Lartë) has published the final list of candidates who meet the legal requirements to be elected to the High Judicial Council (Këshilli i Lartë Gjyqësor, KLGJ). The list includes seven judges: Arbena Ahmeti and Sandër Simoni from the Supreme Court; Igerta Hysi from the Special Anti‑Corruption and Organized Crime Appellate Court; Fatri Islamaj from the General Appellate Court in Tirana; and Matilda Llangozi, Brunilda Kadi and Manjola Xhaxho from the First Instance Courts in Tirana. The selection follows the verification process launched on 26 June 2026 under law No. 115/2016 governing the justice system’s governing bodies.

The court also set the date for the General Assembly of Judges that will vote on the new council members: 25 September 2026 at 10:00 a.m.
