Albanian tourism trends show regional differences in Durrës and Gjirokastër
Tourism trends in Albania show contrasting developments in the cities of Durrës and Gjirokastër. In Durrës, experts have raised concerns regarding the strategy of promoting the city as a low-cost destination. Economist Edlira Jakova warns that low pricing may negatively impact the entire economic chain, limiting the ability of local businesses to increase revenue and invest in service quality. She also noted that 'all-inclusive' models might restrict spending in other local businesses. However, Nerital Golja of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Durrës stated that consumption has seen only a minimal decline and suggested businesses focus on management and quality.
Meanwhile, Gjirokastër is experiencing a successful autumn season following a strong summer. The city has welcomed approximately 350,000 tourists this year, with many hotel capacities already booked. Visitors, including those from the United States, Germany, and Slovakia, have expressed high satisfaction with the city's historical and architectural heritage. Tourism has become a primary driver for the local economy in the Gjirokastër region.
