Albania's interior minister inspects Shëngjin as 357 drivers are fined for extreme speeding

On 28 July 2026, Albanian Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari and State Police General Director Skënder Hita inspected security measures in the coastal town of Shëngjin during the peak tourist season. They highlighted intensified road checks and the increased use of intelligent monitoring tools on all road axes, praising cooperation between Kosovo and Albanian traffic police.

During the weekend, 357 drivers were penalised for excessive speed, with recorded velocities ranging from 150 km/h to over 200 km/h. Hita urged motorists to respect speed limits, signage and traffic rules, and also addressed acoustic noise pollution, commending the Lezhë police directorate for ongoing noise‑level monitoring and calling for continued enforcement to protect residents and visitors.
