Albania's KQZ proposes electronic voting for 2027 local elections

The Central Election Commission (KQZ) has issued an official letter to political parties regarding the 2027 local elections. The commission is proposing the expansion of electronic voting and counting processes to three or four large municipalities.

This proposal is based on previous experiences where electronic systems were implemented in areas such as Tirana, Unit 10, Vorë, Kamëz, and Elbasan. The KQZ seeks the opinion and consolidated stance of political parties to ensure technical, logistical, and administrative stability. A consultative meeting has been scheduled for October 9, 2026, to discuss the potential implementation of these modernized electoral processes.
