Albania's tourism boom draws international hotel groups
Albania is rapidly transforming its hotel market from a fragmented, local sector into a destination that attracts major international brands. Accor’s CEO‑General Manager Elona Gjondedaj, who heads Mercure Tirana Entry and Novotel Tirana City, said the country is no longer just a potential market but is moving toward a more structured, professional hospitality industry. The surge is fueled by rising tourist numbers, expanded air connections and Albania’s growing reputation as a low‑cost Mediterranean getaway. Budget travellers are drawn by cheap accommodation—some rooms cost as little as €5 to €10 per night—and affordable beach services, while the country’s UNESCO sites, crystal‑clear coasts and mountain trails expand its appeal.
The combined effect is encouraging further investment, requiring not only capital but also qualified staff, consistent standards and long‑term vision to sustain the positive climate for large hotel chains.
