Albany County investigator arrested for allegedly abusing Flock cameras to track acquaintances

Laurie Moore, a 47-year-old investigator with the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, has been arrested for allegedly abusing the Flock Safety license plate reader system. Moore, a 13-year veteran of the office, is accused of conducting over 4,000 unauthorized searches on individuals she knew.

According to authorities, the searches included tracking a former girlfriend’s vehicle approximately 3,000 times, along with running searches on four other license plates hundreds of times each. Moore has been charged with misdemeanor counts of official misconduct and second-degree falsifying business records.

Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple stated that Moore gained access to the system in late 2024 and described the incident as a “breach of that trust.” In response to the incident, the Sheriff’s Office has implemented stricter access protocols, limiting system use to supervisors and requiring a 30-day audit process reviewed by Internal Affairs, an undersheriff, or a chief.
