Albert Einstein's career and income evolution
Albert Einstein, the influential physicist known for the theory of relativity and the equation E = mc², experienced significant shifts in his income throughout his career. Between 1902 and 1909, while working as a patent examiner in Bern, Switzerland, he earned approximately 4,500 Swiss francs per year.
As his academic reputation grew, his earnings increased. During his time at the University of Zurich from 1911 to 1914, his salary ranged between 6,000 and 8,000 Swiss francs. Upon moving to the University of Berlin to teach from 1914 to 1933, he became one of Germany's highest-paid professors, earning between 15,000 and 20,000 German marks annually.
In 1921, Einstein was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on the photoelectric effect. The prize money totaled 121,572 Swedish kronor, an amount nearly 50 times his annual salary at that time.
