Albert Gerding awarded North Rhine‑Westphalia's highest order by Minister President Hendrik Wüst
Albert Gerding, a long‑time resident of Lavesum in Haltern am See, received the Verdienstorden des Landes Nordrhein‑Westfalen, the state’s highest decoration. The award was presented by Minister President Hendrik Wüst on Monday, 24 August, at the Düsseldorf State Chancellery during a ceremony that honoured sixteen individuals from politics, science, culture and society.
Gerding’s contributions span more than 55 years with the local sports club DJK Blau‑Weiß Lavesum, where he served as player, youth and senior coach, department head and club chairman for over two decades. He also acted as caretaker for the football and tennis facilities. In the village shooting club he held the rank of captain, served 14 years as Oberst, and was the Schützenkönig (shooting king) from 1995 to 1997. In 2022 he was named Ehrenoberst (honorary colonel) and coordinated the redesign of the village square. Parliamentary State Secretary Josef Hovenjürgen praised him as “the backbone of our villages.”
