Albert Heijn opens 89th Belgian store in Bilzen
Albert Heijn has opened its 89th supermarket in Belgium, located in Bilzen-Hoeselt. This marks the 15th store for the retailer in the province of Limburg and the 19th store for franchisee Peeters-Govers.
The new 1,700 m² facility features 12 checkout lanes, including nine self-checkout options. Despite existing competition from retailers such as Carrefour Market, Aldi, Lidl, and Jumbo in the immediate area, Albert Heijn General Manager Raf Van den Heuvel noted that the Limburg region remains a strong market for the company.
Albert Heijn plans to expand its Belgian presence further by the end of the year, with an XL store scheduled to open in Machelen and another supermarket in Lommel in December, aiming for a total of 91 stores in the country.
