Albert Riera appointed as Red Star Belgrade head coach

Red Star Belgrade has officially appointed Spanish coach Albert Riera to a two-year contract. Riera succeeds Dejan Stanković, who resigned following the club's elimination from Champions League qualifying by Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

Riera, 44, previously managed Celje and Olimpija Ljubljana in Slovenia and most recently held a position at Eintracht Frankfurt. Reports indicate his contract includes significant financial terms, with earnings estimated around 960,000 euros in his first season and 980,000 euros in the second.

His immediate challenge will be preparing the team for the UEFA Europa League play-off against Viktoria Plzeň. Riera is expected to bring a new tactical approach, potentially implementing a 4-1-4-1 system, and will be supported by an assistant coach and an Italian analyst.
