Alberta and Ontario Premiers discuss energy and economic future
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Ontario Premier Doug Ford met in Calgary for the 2026 Enserva Speaker Series to discuss Canada’s energy security and economic competitiveness. The leaders focused on the need for expanded energy infrastructure and stronger domestic economic ties to meet growing international demand and strengthen Canada’s position as a reliable global energy supplier.
In a separate address to municipal leaders in Edmonton, Premier Smith expressed interest in working with a ‘coalition of the willing’ among municipalities to host AI data centres to expand the provincial tax base. This follows Alberta’s efforts to become a hub for such facilities, including a Meta data centre project in Sturgeon County. The address also touched upon upcoming provincial referendums regarding immigration, constitutional authority, and Alberta’s status within Canada.
