Alberta disability benefit payments delayed by technical error

A technical system error in Alberta’s disability assistance programs caused thousands of recipients of the Alberta Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) and the Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP) to receive late, reduced or missing payments in August 2026. Recipients reported receiving hundreds of dollars less, extra amounts, or no payment at all, creating immediate financial strain.

Provincial Minister Nathan Neudorf acknowledged the issue on social media and said the government was working to identify and correct all impacted payments. Press secretary Jonah Pickle said approximately two percent of recipients – about 1,605 people – were affected and that the province would ensure all errors are fully corrected by July 31. Recipients such as William Keller, Don Slater and Sam Myers described the hardship caused by missed rent, NSF fees and the inability to pay essential bills.

The government is also in the process of transitioning recipients from the older AISH program to ADAP, which includes a $200 supplemental benefit until the end of 2026. Officials indicated the technical fault was isolated to the August payment cycle and that steps are being taken to prevent recurrence.
