Alberta driver fined and impounded for speeding in B.C
A 21-year-old woman from Alberta faces significant financial penalties and vehicle impoundment after being caught speeding on a British Columbia highway. On August 13, the BC Highway Patrol clocked a black Chevrolet Trax traveling at 142 km/h in a 70 km/h zone on Highway 97, south of Taylor.
The driver was issued a $483 ticket for excessive speeding and her vehicle was impounded for seven days. In addition to the fine and impound fees, she faces at least three years of high-risk driving insurance premiums, which is estimated to bring her total costs to over $2,000.
Sgt. Michael McLaughlin of the BC Highway Patrol noted that the incident serves as a reminder that police patrol rural roads and that drivers are responsible for knowing local speed limits regardless of whether they are residents or visitors.
