Alberta faces severe thunderstorms and significant temperature drops

Alberta is facing a period of volatile weather characterized by severe thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and significant temperature fluctuations. A stationary boundary over the Rockies is driving storm activity, with risks of damaging winds reaching 100–110 km/h and large hail.

Forecasts indicate a moderate risk zone for southern Alberta, including Calgary, Airdrie, Okotoks, and Lethbridge, where hail as large as golf balls and wind gusts up to 90 km/h are possible. There is also a potential for funnel cloud formation in certain regions. Areas northwest of Edmonton, such as Grande Prairie, face minor risks of smaller hail and heavy rain.

Later in the week, a significant temperature drop is expected, with conditions potentially falling 9–12°C below seasonal norms. This shift may bring snowfall to higher elevations as freezing levels drop to approximately 2,400 m.
