Alberta invests $23.4M in new Lethbridge hemodialysis lab

The Alberta government has allocated $23.4 million to upgrade the hemodialysis facility at Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge. The expansion raises treatment stations from 24 to 30, a 25 percent increase, and adds the province’s first nocturnal dialysis option, allowing patients to receive treatment overnight.

Scott Holland, executive director of Alberta Kidney Care (South), said the new lab gives patients a “more normal work‑life balance,” while unit manager Susan Jorgensen highlighted the bright, ground‑level windows that improve patients’ mental well‑being. Lethbridge‑East MLA Nathan Neudorf called the investment “significant for the south” and noted it reduces the need for patients to travel to other sites for care.
