Alberta Minister cites ‘human error’ in Edmonton detainee drop-offs

Alberta Public Safety Minister Mike Ellis attributed the recent release of detainees in downtown Edmonton to ‘human error.’ The explanation follows the publication of surveillance footage showing provincial corrections transport vans dropping off detainees in an inner-city neighborhood.

The incidents have prompted calls for reform from local officials, residents, and business owners. Edmonton Mayor Andrew Knack has requested details on provincial measures to prevent future occurrences, while Dylan Bressey, head of the province’s largest municipal group, suggested the issue may extend beyond Edmonton.
