Alberta Premier Danielle Smith moves to address new legislative priorities
Alberta's legislature is reconvening following a provincial referendum in which voters overwhelmingly chose to remain in Canada. Premier Danielle Smith has stated that she considers the debate regarding separatism settled and expects members of her United Conservative Party to move past the issue.
As the legislature resumes, the Smith government intends to focus on several key areas, including affordability, education, and immigration reform, following unofficial referendum results indicating a slim majority of Albertans favor changes to immigration policy.
Other upcoming legislative priorities include consumer protection rules for event ticket sales, auto insurance changes, and stricter guidelines for artificial intelligence data centres. The government also expects to introduce new laws concerning municipal bike lanes, illegal garbage dumping, and school report card standards before the winter break.
