Canadian travel spending to US drops $3.3 billion in 2025
Statistics Canada reported that Canadians spent $3.3 billion less on travel to the United States in 2025 compared with the previous year. The decline came despite a month‑to‑month increase in cross‑border trips for two consecutive months.
At the same time, spending on domestic travel rose to $81.3 billion, and trips to countries other than the United States grew to $22.8 billion, indicating a shift toward internal and non‑US overseas tourism.
The figures highlight the impact of the “Buy Canadian” campaign and broader travel‑spending trends affecting the bilateral tourism market between Canada and the United States.
