Alberto Aquilani appointed head coach of Sassuolo

Sassuolo has confirmed Alberto Aquilani as its new head coach, succeeding Fabio Grosso. The club’s board, led by Giovanni Carnevali, said Aquilani’s recent success with Catanzaro – guiding them to the Serie B playoff final – fits the team’s philosophy of developing young talent. Aquilani, a former Sassuolo player, will continue the club’s tradition of appointing emerging coaches who can implement a clear, proactive playing style.

Torino had also been in talks with Aquilani earlier in the week, but the club withdrew its interest and turned back to former player Ignazio Abate and other candidates such as Eusebio Di Francesco. Torino’s president, Cairo, indicated the decision was driven by Aquilani’s ongoing negotiations with Sassuolo and the desire for a stable project.

The appointments mark a new chapter for both Serie A clubs as they prepare for the upcoming season.
