Alberto Aquilani appointed head coach of Serie A club Sassuolo

Alberto Aquilani has been confirmed as the new head coach of U.S. Sassuolo Calcio, replacing Fabio Grosso ahead of the 2026‑27 Serie A season. The club announced the appointment in an official communiqué, noting Aquilani’s history with Sassuolo as a player in 2017 (16 appearances, 1 237 minutes) and his successful coaching record, which includes three Coppa Italia Primavera titles with Fiorentina’s youth side and a Serie B campaign with Catanzaro that finished fifth and reached the playoff final. In his introductory press conference Aquilani said, “È un piacere e un onore essere qui… la parola d’ordine sarà serietà e ambizione.” He praised the club’s infrastructure, the Squinzi family and the professional environment, and expressed enthusiasm about working again with striker Domenico Berardi.
