Alberto Bagnai appointed to Italy's Antitrust Authority, vacates parliamentary seat
Alberto Bagnai, a Lega deputy elected in 2022 from the Chieti constituency, has been appointed by the presidents of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate to the three‑member board of Italy's Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato (Antitrust). He replaces Saverio Valentino, who was promoted to the authority's presidency.
The Antitrust mandate is incompatible with holding a parliamentary seat, so Bagnai will resign from the Chamber and from his roles as vice‑president of the Lega group and chair of the parliamentary commission overseeing mandatory pension and welfare schemes. His departure triggers a supplementary election in the Chieti single‑member district. Party leaders, including Senator Claudio Borghi, welcomed the appointment, emphasizing its expected benefit for Italy's economic growth.
