Alberto Carvalho accused of misconduct at LAUSD
The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) board has leveled serious allegations of unprofessional conduct and policy violations against former superintendent Alberto Carvalho. According to an internal letter, Carvalho allegedly took several steps to evade district oversight.
Specific accusations include instructing staff to remove a GPS tracking device from his district-issued SUV to hide his movements and directing his district-paid driver to perform personal errands, such as transporting his wife to the airport and driving him and a female employee to social engagements. Additionally, the board claims Carvalho had staff unblock the messaging app Telegram on his work computer, despite its classification as a high cybersecurity risk.
These allegations follow FBI raids on Carvalho's home and office in February and preceded his resignation in June. Carvalho’s attorneys have rejected the claims, asserting that his use of a district vehicle and driver was permitted under his contract and guidance from district counsel due to heightened security threats. They also maintained that LAUSD officials were aware of his use of secure messaging applications.
