Alberto Cirio vows to protest in support of democracy amid No Tav controversy

On 3 August 2026, Alberto Cirio, president of Italy’s Piedmont region, said he is prepared to join street demonstrations to back democracy and the No Tav movement.

Cirio’s comment came amid ongoing violent protests in the Val di Susa valley over the proposed high‑speed rail line (TAV). The regional leader, who has traditionally worked within institutional channels, said the current climate compels him to take to the streets alongside demonstrators.
