Alberto Díaz Pico named president of Fundación Las Médulas

Alberto Díaz Pico, the Counselor of Culture, Tourism, and Sport, has been appointed as the new president of the Fundación Las Médulas. During a recent meeting of the Foundation's Board, the 2025 accounts were approved and leadership changes were finalized.

In light of rising tourism, the Consejo Comarcal del Bierzo has requested increased surveillance and improved services at the site. Key concerns include environmental damage caused by visitors, such as smoking in the mountains, damaging trees, and improper waste disposal. Proposed measures include reinstating park rangers, improving multilingual signage, and establishing regulated areas for campervans.

Additionally, the Council suggested infrastructure upgrades such as a shuttle service to the Orellán Lookout, enhanced mobile coverage, and better sanitary services during peak months. The Foundation is also working on the recovery of the Archaeological Classroom following a major fire in 2025, with completion expected by the end of the year.
