Alberto Gilardino appointed as new Parma head coach

Parma Calcio 1913 has officially appointed Alberto Gilardino as its new head coach, succeeding Carlos Cuesta. Cuesta departed the club by mutual agreement following disagreements regarding the direction of the club’s sporting project.

Gilardino, a 2006 World Cup winner with Italy, returns to Parma where he previously played as a striker from 2002 to 2005, scoring 56 goals in 116 appearances. He has signed a contract through the end of the 2026/27 season, which includes a club option for two additional years.

Gilardino inherits a team currently in 15th place in Serie A with four points from five matches. His coaching career includes stints at Rezzato, Pro Vercelli, Genoa, and Pisa. His first match in charge is scheduled for October 10 against Inter Milan. His technical staff will include Gaetano Caridi, Francesco Valiani, Antonio Bovenzi, and Mirco Vecchi.
