Alberto Grau proposes land donation for housing in Iglesia

Alberto Grau, president of AITURIC and a mining entrepreneur, has proposed a project to make private lands available for the creation of new residential neighborhoods in the Iglesia department of San Juan. Grau stated that his intention is to coordinate with the Provincial Housing Institute (IPV), mining sector representatives, and financial entities to ensure that land access is paired with financing options for construction.

Critics have characterized the proposal as a political maneuver aimed at his potential 2027 candidacy for mayor of Iglesia, suggesting the land offered lacks necessary urbanization and services. Grau maintains that providing land without financing would be ‘absurd’ and seeks to integrate the land availability into a formal housing development scheme.
