Alberto Núñez Feijóo blames Pedro Sánchez for systemic corruption in PP rally

Alberto Núñez Feijóo, leader of Spain’s Partido Popular, delivered a political‑course balance on the third anniversary of the 2023 general election. He accused Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez of being the "señor X" of corruption and described the Moncloa palace as the "epicentre" of the scandal, saying, "Para encontrar la zona cero de la mayor corrupción de nuestra democracia… la zona cero está en la Moncloa. El señor X es el propio Sánchez".

Feijóo linked the current investigations – including the Plus Ultra loan case and alleged illicit commissions involving former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero – to Sánchez’s government, asserting that without Sánchez “Zapatero no habría podido delinquir”. He announced that the PP will pursue a “clean‑up” of Spanish politics and promised a “strong and solid” government, potentially in coalition with Vox.

The speech sparked sharp reactions. PSOE minister Diana Morant warned that a PP‑Vox coalition “se parece cada vez más a esos gobiernos criminales como el de Hitler”. Prime Minister Sánchez mocked Feijóo’s ambitions, noting that “there are elections ahead and we’ll see”. Several PSOE officials accused Feijóo of delivering a “failed opposition” that hands the PP over to Vox.

The controversy adds pressure to Spain’s political climate ahead of the 2027 general election, with both parties framing the narrative around corruption investigations, coalition prospects, and the future of the government.
